New Tunes, 9/28/2012: Hornpipes and Reels from my Personal Collection

I have added five more tunes from my personal collection. These include two old standard hornpipes:

  • Fisher’s Hornpipe
  • Sailor’s Hornpipe

And also three reels:

  • Devil’s Dream (though maybe this should be a hornpipe?)
  • Sandy River Belle
  • Spotted Pony

I really like Sandy River Belle and Spotted Pony.

New Survey: Bowing Notation in Transcriptions

I have received some feedback that full transcriptions, such as those of Melvin Wine, should include bowing notation. So, I have added a survey to the home page asking your opinion. Please cast your vote!

New Tunes, 9/27/2012: Favourites From My Collection

I have added five tunes from my personal collection. These are some of my favourite old time tunes. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

  • Around The Horn
  • Big Footed Man in a Sandy Lot
  • Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine
  • Waynesboro
  • Wine’s Delight

I still have a large backlog of my personal tunes to upload, and I will continue to do so over the next few days. Maybe next week I can get back to transcribing some more Melvin Wine tunes.

“Olde Tyme” Changed to “Old Time”

Several fiddlers have suggested that I change “olde tyme” to “old time,” as the former spelling might put some people off for some very legitimate reasons. I was initially resistant to changing it, as I’ve spelled it “olde tyme” for more years than I care to recall. But I’ve also always believed in the old adage that “in a multitude of counselors there is safety.” Therefore, I have gone through and changed every instance of “olde tyme” to the more standard spelling of “old time” so that nobody will be put off by my spelling. My whole goal here is to make this music as accessible as possible to as many people as possible, so that’s what I’m going to do.

If you find any instances of “olde tyme” while browsing the site, please let me know so I can change them.

Website Updates, 9/26/2012: More Melvin Wine!

I have added six more Melvin Wine transcriptions:

  • Cold Frosty Morning
  • Eadle Alley
  • Horney Ewe
  • Jimmy Johnson
  • Lady’s Waist Ribbon
  • Waiting for the Boatman

This completes the backlog of my Melvin Wine transcriptions. In the future, I will upload new Wine transcriptions as I transcribe them. In the meantime, I still have many more tunes from my personal collection to upload. I will probably be focusing on getting them ready to post rather than transcribing new tunes, so hopefully I can get back to transcribing Wine’s excellent fiddling next week.

New Advanced Search Feature

I have added an advanced search feature, accessible by clicking on “Advanced Tune Search” in the menu on the left-hand menu. You can filter by any combination of collection, tune name, tune type, and key.

For instance, if I wanted to view all Melvin Wine waltzes in D, I would click on “Collection,” then “Melvin Wine.” I would then click on “Tune Type,” and then “Waltz.” I would then click on “Key,” and then “D.” Finally, I would click “Search.”

Please let me know if you have any problems with this feature, or with anything else on this site.
