Five Alabama Fiddle Tunes

I have added five Alabama fiddle tunes from Y. Z. Hamilton and the Dixie Ramblers. These include three rags, one waltz, and one song (the fiddle part of which could be played as a breakdown if so desired). I actually posted them Friday, but didn’t get around to making a blog post until now.

  • Franklin County Blues (rag by the Dixie Ramblers)
  • Ridin’ in an Old Model T (rag by the Dixie Ramblers)
  • Fifty Years Ago (waltz by Y. Z. Hamilton)
  • Hamilton’s Special Breakdown (rag by Y. Z. Hamilton, it is a rag despite the word “breakdown” in the title)
  • Old Sefus Brown (Whoa Mule) (song by Y. Z. Hamilton)

These five tunes can be found in the Deep South Collection.

Speaking of collections, you may have noticed that I divided up the Miscellaneous Transcription Collection into regional collections, including the Cumberlands, the Deep South, the Midwest, the Ozarks and Missouri Valley (encompassing Arkansas, Missouri, and Nebraska, and which I will probably have to reorganize someday), the Pacific Northwest, the Southern Appalachians, the Southwest, and Texas and Oklahoma.

Happy fiddling!

These are all highly challenging waltzes. The four Benny Thomasson waltzes can be found in the Benny Thomasson Collection, and Star Waltz can be found in the Lewis Thomasson Collection.
