Two Clayton McMichen Medleys

This update is sponsored by Dr. Fiddle contributor Patrick Towell.

I have just posted transcriptions of two Clayton McMichen medleys to the Clayton McMichen Collection. The first medley consists of the following tunes:

  • Old Joe Clark
  • Pretty Little Widder (Widow)
  • Shortenin’ Bread

The second medley consists of these tunes:

  • Turkey in the Straw
  • Old Hen Cackle
  • Fiddler’s Dram (Jenny Lind)

I especially like Pretty Little Widder and Shortenin’ Bread.

Happy fiddling!

Introducing the Clayton McMichen Collection

We have had transcriptions of Georgia fiddler Clayton McMichen for a while now; he and other fiddlers who appeared with the Skillet Lickers have been classified in the Skillet Lickers Collection. My intention for that collection is that it will be a placeholder collection for transcriptions of the various fiddlers and mandolinists that were associated with the Skillet Lickers over the years until I do enough transcriptions of each individual musician for them to have their own collection. My friend and Dr. Fiddle contributor Patrick Towell, a fine fiddler with a passion for Georgia fiddling, has sponsored this batch of transcriptions, which pushes McMichen over the threshold to have his own collection. The five McMichen transcriptions that I posted earlier have been moved into the new Clayton McMichen Collection, and I have posted new transcriptions of two medleys recorded by McMichen:

  • Fire on the Mountain (Fire Medley, Part One)
  • Ida Red (Fire Medley, Part Two)
  • Sally Goodin (Fire Medley, Part Three)
  • Sourwood Mountain (Sourwood Medley, Part One)
  • Peter Went Fishing (Sourwood Medley, Part Two)
  • Sugar in the Gourd (Sourwood Medley, Part Three)

Happy fiddling!

Five Clark Kessinger Transcriptions

I have just posted five more transcriptions to the Clark Kessinger Collection:

  • Johnny Bring the Jug ‘Round the Hill
  • Josh And I
  • Lauterbach Waltz (Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?)
  • Leather Britches
  • Little Betty Brown

This collection now stands at 50 tunes, and I have 45 more left to post. Kessinger was quite prolific!

Happy fiddling!
