Five Benny Thomasson Transcriptions

I have just posted five transcriptions from Texas contest style patriarch Benny Thomasson:

  • Forrester’s Hornpipe
  • Fort Worth Rag
  • Fourteen Days in Georgia
  • Garfield’s March
  • Hell Among the Yearlings

These transcriptions can be found in the Benny Thomasson Collection.

Additionally, I have renamed the Benny Thomasson tunes formerly identified as Butterfly Hornpipe and Dew Drop Hornpipe to Dew Drop Hornpipe and Unidentified Hornpipe (Possibly Butterfly). Many thanks to David Stone, who pointed out that what I had identified as Butterfly appeared in Ryan’s Mammoth Collection of 1883 as Dew Drop.

Happy fiddling!

These five join the existing transcription of Old Chattanooga. I really love Smith’s fiddling. These are the only recordings I have been able to find of Smith; if you can provide more then please contact me, as I would love to transcribe them.
