I originally learned this from my mother, and was later influenced by the 2nd South Carolina String Band's version.

This tune comes to us from the minstrel repertoire. I learned this from my mother. She only knew one verse, and sang the chorus like this:

Get out of the way, old Dan Tucker
You're too late to stay for supper
Supper's over and breakfast's a-cookin'
And old Dan Tucker's just a-standin' there lookin'
