This tune was originally composed by Canadian Down East fiddler Ned Landry.  The Missouri Valley fiddlers probably learned it from Canadian radio broadcasts.

Here's a YouTube video of Cyril Stinnett playing Woodchopper's Reel very close to the way Bob Walters played it (not surprising, since according to this source, Stinnett learned much of his repertoire from Walters):
