78rpm record

This cool little number was recorded by Mississippi string band Hoyt Ming and his Pep Steppers.  This is really more of a novelty tune than a reel or breakdown, involving whooping in supposedly Indian style.  I included the whooping in my recording, but honestly real whooping is much, much louder and would have saturated the microphone and sounded unpleasnat in the recording.  (Most or all Cherokee men used to whoop, and we whooped when going into battle.  Some Cherokees, myself included, still whoop occasionally.  See Professor Al Herrin's excellent book Cherokee Calling for more information.)

This tune has no comments.
