Comments:

According to the Fiddler’s Companion, George Booker originated back east, and likely had Scottish roots. Now it is firmly entrenched in the Texas repertoire. The note in the ending marked 8va should be played as a harmonic on the A string. This YouTube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue90f5r-2Qw offers instruction on playing harmonics. The particular harmonic in question is discussed starting around 1:10.
