Comments:

Lewis’ younger brother Benny Thomasson appears to have recorded this waltz for Okeh in 1929, but it was never released. I have not found any recording of Benny playing it, but here’s a nice version transcribed from Lewis’ fiddling.

I’m not terribly certain as to what the tuning should be. In the recordings of Lewis, he is generally tuned half-step sharp or flat. In this case, he was tuned to D#D#G#D#. I interpreted this as a half-step sharp, and transcribedStar Waltz in the key of G. (He could have just as easily intended it to be EEAE, in which case it would be in the key of A.)

Look out for sixteenth notes, triplets, and pizzicato notes. The timing on the tied triplets can be tricky at first, but once you get it down it’s the same for most of the A part.

Tune to DDGD.
