This amazing rag was probably written by Alabama fiddler Y. Z. Hamilton. Although the title includes the word “breakdown,” it is really a rag. This shows how the usage of the term has changed over the years. Also, Hamilton was apparently a major nutcase. This is quite a difficult piece, but is well worth the effort to learn. Simpler versions of the tune have been recorded over the years under the names G Rag, Concord Rag, and Bustdown Stomp.
