Samuel Peacock was a fiddling barber from Corsicana, TX (southeast of Dallas) whose main claim to fame was writing Beaumont Rag. This is his version of Grey Eagle, which he recorded in 1929 with Smith’s Garage Fiddle Band (consisting of Sam and his brothers John and Charlie). The recording was either edited or damaged over the years, so the first time through was truncated. The other repetitions of the tune contain six distinct parts, always starting with a consistent A part. One of the parts sounds suspiciously like Bill Cheatum. I’m not going to try to make a recording of this tune.
