Recording on the album Lewis Thomasson: Old Texas Fiddle Tunes Played the Old Way

This is Lewis Thomasson’s version of the well-known novelty tune Indian War Whoop. This version has three parts, and the B part is crooked (two extra beats per line).

Indian War Whoop is normally accompanied by vocalizations imitating an Indian’s whoop (generally a very puny whoop by Cherokee standards) and Thomasson’s version was no exception. I have not annotated the whoops, but it should be evident that they occurred during the B part.

I recommend the third repetition of the tune for learning it.

Cross-tune to AEAE.
