Comments:

Moore says that he “got this tune by way of [Texas fiddler] Louis Franklin and [Oklahoma fiddler] Orville Burns.” This appears to be a different tune from the Fort Smith recorded by Luke Highnight & His Ozark Strutters in 1928. The title is most likely a reference to Fort Smith, Arkansas, which was an important army base in the 19th century, involved in the oppression of American Indians and the Civil War. There shouldn’t be anything terribly difficult in this tune, but look out for accidentals.
