Wake Up Jacob is probably Hunt’s best known recording due to its inclusion on the Smithsonian’s widely popular Anthology of American Folk Music. It’s A part is the well-known old time tune Stoney Point (also known as Pigtown Fling and a host of other names). The B part is free-form in its timing, which is typical of Hunt’s recorded ragtime and breakdown fiddling. Each instance of the B part contains pretty much the same phrases, but repeated a variable number of times, and with chords held for varying numbers of beats.

If you’re going to try to pick out chords to play behind this melody, I’ll give you a hint: the first line of the B part (with the G#) is played over an E chord.

This tune is a member of the following groups:

Buck Creek Gals, Stoney Point, The Devil in Georgia, Pigtown Fling, Temperance Reel
