Comments:

This isn’t the well-known “mammy’s little baby” version of Shortenin’ Bread. This version entered the Texas and Oklahoma repertoire from the recordings of Kentucky fiddler Doc Roberts (find his version here). Moore reports that he learned it from Oklahoma fiddler Herman Johnson, who learned it from Orville Burns (another Oklahoma fiddler), who learned it from the Doc Roberts recording. This isn’t a very difficult tune, but watch out for accidentals.
