This is a very challenging breakdown, with a lot of unison As and Es, and passages where you have to hold an A on the third string or E on the second string while playing melody on the next string up. It might be easier to play cross-tuned to AEAE, but nothing in the recording suggests that Kessinger did so. In fact, the presence of slides up to low A suggest that he played it tuned to GDAE (or at least with the fourth string tuned to a G). Some of the phrases in the A part remind me of Melvin Wine’s version of Cold Frosty Morning. Kessinger introduced a lot of variation throughout the tune, especially in the syncopation.
