I really like Kessinger’s version of this well-known rag. As with transcriptions of other versions of Deal, I have arbitrarily labeled it as being in the key of G, but it doesn’t really have a key. It only resolves to a G chord. The chord progression is E, A, D, G. If you consider those chords for a moment, you will see that they follow the circle of fifths, proceeding in the direction of fewer sharps.

The tune consists of a single two-line part, played many times, with variations. Within this part, the first two measures are played over an E chord, the subsequent two measures over0 an A chord, then two measures over a D chord, and finally it resolves with two measures over a G chord.

Kessinger used vibrato on some notes that are held for multiple beats. This is denoted by squiggly lines to the left of notes in the transcription that are to be played vibrato.
