Comments:

Golden Slippers was one of my granny’s favourite tunes, but I don’t think she would have liked this version. Every once in a while, I run across a recording like this by a fiddler whom I otherwise greatly respect. The best way I could describe it would be “overwrought,” or perhaps even “over the top.” I would not advise trying to learn the melody from Kessinger’s version. However, if you already know the melody and want some grassy variations, this transcription should be right up your alley! There are passages of hokum bowing, spiccato notes (marked with an X in the transcription), and even some vibrato (denoted by a squiggly line to the left of notes to be played vibrato). I am not 100% confident in my transcription, as the fiddle was sometimes nearly overpowered in the recording by other instruments, most notably during the hokum bowing passages.
