Clayton McMichen recorded a medley of the fiddle tunes Sourwood Mountain, Peter Went Fishing, and Sugar in the Gourd, in that order, in 1939. This transcription is of the first tune of the medley, Sourwood Mountain. I am also including a transcription of the entire medley, so each part can be seen in context. I believe that McMichen played this medley cross-tuned to AEAE.

Sourwood Mountain is one of my favorite tunes, and McMichen played a really nice version. I especially like how he syncopated it. Look out for grace notes, sixteenth notes, and broken rhythm.

Cross-tune to AEAE.
