Clayton McMichen recorded a medley of the fiddle tunes Sourwood Mountain, Peter Went Fishing, and Sugar in the Gourd, in that order, in 1939. This transcription is of the second tune of the medley, Peter Went Fishing. I am also including a transcription of the entire medley, so each part can be seen in context.

This is a nice, syncopated version of Peter. Look out for grace notes and sixteenth notes. McMichen didn’t really play distinct A and B parts, just variations of the same theme. At one point, he stopped fiddling and someone, presumably McMichen, sang the following scatty doggerel lyrics:

Late one night when Peter went a’ fishing
Paddy ump tum paddy uma day
Caught a little mud cat, took him in the kitchen
Paddy ump tum paddy uma day

Cross-tune to AEAE.
