It originated in the minstrel repertoire, became the national anthem of the Confederate States of America, was purportedly a favourite of Abraham Lincoln, and now many people are afraid to sing or play it. It is meaningful to me because my great-great-grandfather was a rebel calvaryman during the Civil War.
