1972 recording of Benny Thomasson released on The Weiser Reunion album

This is a very challenging rag from Texas contest-style patron Benny Thomasson. This is actually my second transcription of this tune. The earlier transcription was from an album of fantastic guitar music on which Thomasson appeared as a guest. It is still worth study, as it demonstrates an approach to fiddling as backup behind a guitar. But this transcription, from The Weiser Reunion album, is longer and entirely fiddle lead with variations.

Some of the repetitions are somewhat arbitrary, as they are composed of dramatic variations. Notable among these variations are a hokum bowing A part the second time through, and a jazzy arpeggiated B part the fourth time through. (The jazzy effect is diminished if only the melody is played.)

This is not an easy piece, but it is a prime example of Texas contest-style ragtime fiddling.
