This is West Virginia fiddler Clark Kessinger’s version of Sourwood Mountain, one of my favourtie Appalachian breakdowns. This is basically a very simple tune, with two single-line parts. Kessinger played it nine times through, always playing the A part twice and playing the B part a variable number of times (between two and five) each repetition. The only difficulty could be the unison As and unison Es, which are plentiful in this tune. There are also a few potentially difficult double-stops here and there, especially in the ending. There is also some interesting bowing in some repetitions of the A part, which can be deduced by looking at the tied notes in the transcription.
